I just do the Delia one (the traditional one, not the veggie one 'cos I don't like it) with butter instead. Tis most nice but doesn't keep amazingly long.

There's one in one of the Nigella books.

Well, since I have been unable to find gluten free suet I just stopped using it and made my mincemeat without it, I have to be honest I can't tell the difference!!

And anyway, if you're going to be purist mincemeat should be made in September (when Bramley apples are in season) and left to mature for at least 3 months before you use it. I haven't made any this year as I have plenty left from last year and it gets better with age.......yummmmmmm!!!!!

I am amking gluten free mincemeat for my mum and she said that Atora light is gluten free (if that is why you wanted no suet?) I just used Delia's recipe and will add that.

Now I need to work out how to make gluten and dairy free pastry!

Bugger, really? She is the one who told me it was okay.
Will have to try Nigella then, glad I found this thread!

I know I should have made it months ago but, well, I didn't!

Will see if I can find nigella's recipe.

Thanks!

ChirpyGirl

For gluten and dairy free pastry try Doves Farm Self Raising GF flour and use vitalite instead of butter/marg. GF pastry is horrible to work with as it doesn't roll and stretch like normal pastry, but you can make small things like mince pies with it just don't try to roll it out too many times and don't try to move it en masses once it is rolled out.

However I have just found this and would be tempted to buy some if it wasn't only available in bulk!!! Perhpas we should post on the allergies thread and see if anyone wants to share a batch!

Thanks for the Nigella recipe!

I was looking for a suet-free recipe, because I can't buy suet here in Spain. I was going to make Delia's vegetarian mincemeat, but this looks much nicer and more traditional.

ew, who would want 1.5kg of veggy suet? What would you do with it

Am going to get some Dove's next week, thanks for that

Yes Chirpy, thats a lot of mince meat and dumplings isn't it?!!!

This is the self raising one which I use all the time, they do a [[http://www.dovesfarm.co.uk/listing.html?categoryId=135 whole range of GF flours but I find this one is definately the best all rounder, although I will use the white bread flour if I can't get the SR one.
