Unusual tastes?

Do you children have unsual tastes in food?

DH and I love Thai food and our DS adores Thai green curry, Pad Thai and Thai fishcakes as well as olives (especially stuffed with garlic). We get some funny looks when he asks me for olives while other kids are munching on crisps and sweets.

Bless him, he doesn't know what sweets are and has only had chocolate twice in his life.

DS1 loves squid and octopus. When we go to a restaurant, any restaurant, he turns to the waiter and says "I'll have the squid".

He also likes mussels, and spaghetti with clams, but only if the clams have shells. He loves dim sum.

18 month old dd had her 1st curry at 5 months old (home made, not takeaway). She had homemade Thai curry tonight. Her real favourites are any sort of fish & meat.MIL was surprised when she heard that dd liked pheasant as she herself had never eaten it & had no idea of what it was like.

My 4 yr old dd will steal half a lemon if I cut one to use in cooking and run away with it to eat it (and ds, 8 mths seems quite partial to it when she offers him some too!)
She will also eat an entire jar of gerkhins in one go.

Both of mine love prawns and all kinds of fish, though only ds1 likes smoked salmon. Ds2 (3) adores gherkins too - calls them "berkins", also loves black olives. Ds1 likes spinach! Both like curry (mild and home made) and love Chinese food.

When ds1 was about 3 we were at my Mum's and she asked him if he would like a sandwich for lunch and what would he like on it. He said "have you got any smoked salmon, Grandma?"

I don't think I tried smoked salmon 'til I was about 21...and exotic food for me as a child was spaghetti bolognese!

Ds has expensive tastes, too [rolling eyes emoticon] Loves smoked salmon (although from this thread that's not too unusual!), olives, pesto, parmesan. But tbh that's about it at the moment, so it's not much different to having a child who will only eat fish fingers...

DD (2.10) loves olives, salami, houmous, mature cheddar (won't touch mild cheese), smoked salmon, artichokes. Pasta and Pesto is her favourite meal and the one that is guaranteed to go down when nothing else will. I think saltiness is a common theme amongst her likes, but figure as she doesn't eat processed food it's Ok. And teh other day she had a none Heinz ketchup at a cafe and said it wasn't nice. She also loves to sit in the kitchen with me and unscrew and smell all my herb and spice jars.

DD loves snacking on dry bran flakes. I've told her they're crisps.

My DS will actually eat most things that he is offered - good one for us although not exotic is sardines because DH and I don't eat fish its an easy way to get some oily fish into him and now DD has started to have them too. But his absolute favourite has got to be curry.
