My dd has gone off Apple and Orange juice- she says it 'makes her gums hurt'.

What can I buy?

Concentrated apple juice from health food shops.

To be honest it is a effort to get her to drink anything. She can make one glass of juice last all day. She has water with breakfast and water at school and milk in the evenings.

Rock's Organic Squashes

Just fruit and sugar, no junk at all, so you need to kepe them in the fridge. They are yummy too!

They were ok but didn't keep them in the fridge- maybe that's where I was ging wrong.

Is it squash you are thinking of? Recent thread revealed that Sainsbuty's own brand are without aspartame.

some people don't like the taste of plain water.

Agree with cod. If she's thirsty enough she WILL drink water. Try taking her to the park to play but only bring water and no money so you won't be tempted to buy juice.

I had a little boy in the park the other day asking me for juice and I told him I only had water. He said, 'I HATE' water'. I just said, 'OK' but within minutes he was asking for it and glugging it back.

I don't think it's really possible to hate water. BUt I can see how easily a juice habit can be built up.

I DO give her water, I said she has water with breakfast and water all day at school.

It's just nice to have some juice in the house, for us all to drink, not just dd and I wanted to ask if there were any without aspartame.

Thanks for your help.

Ds drinks water, has gone off apple juice with water. Hasn't drunk milk since 2 years old, since not in the bottle. Has lovely teeth, eats cheese and yogurts. Doesn't drink enough I think, so I tell him he has to drink every time he wants to do something fun. Weird I know. Friends children have cavities at 4years old!!! Has squash at parties and outings. Never fizzy, no problem as DH and I don't drink them either. he doesn't know any better yet!

cheapest option is to dilute fruit juice or fruit tea with some sugar.

i see where you're coming from.

sometimes i fancy a change from drinking water. BFD.

Why shouldn't they have a bit of juice?
I drink water when I am thirsty and wine for pleasure.

Diluted grape juice is nice. Or else cold roobois tea. Oterhwise just water is more than fine.

Children tend to know how much they need to drink. Does she eat a lot of fruit and veg? If so she'll be getting a lot of liquid from those and won't necessarily need to drink much else.

I give water and milk, but have the compromise that I buy him smoothie fruit pouches as a treat (which he loves) and also if we're out I might get us a juice or a smoothie and pour some into water for him (about half and half sometimes, 1/3 juice on other times) and he quite likes that.

I don't see anything wrong with him having just water and milk when he has fruit and smoothies too.

Depending on your DDs age, you might just want to experiment with what you all like to drink. She might find that squashes are not much better than juice, but she'll probably grow out of it hurting her mouth and go back onto juice soon enough?

I was told by my dentist that apple juice is the worst thing for teeth as it is so acidic. She advised watering it down gradually so that it was eventually water. However, my dd drinks for England and refused to drink it when it was too weak, so this was working out to be too expensive. She now has squash .

As an aside, I was caught out the other day as my son goes hyper when he has aspartame, I thought it was only in sugar free Robinsons, didn't realise it was also in their normal squash, so they contain sugar and aspartame - um, Nice!

Any fruit juice, diluted with some water. You can tell instantly what's in it by reading the lable. If it's called -insert fruit here- juice, it cannot legally have anything in it apart from natural fruit juice. So apple juice, grape juice, raspberry juice etc will all only be the natural fruit juice. It is pure juice.

IF, however, it's called -insert fruit here- juice drink, this means it has other stuff added. This could be extra sugar, sweeteners, preservatives etc. So apple and raspberry juice drink will not be pure apple juice.

I like cordials, they don't tend to have any artificial sweeteners in them, just natural sugar.

Helen, most squashes contain both sugar and artificial sweeteners, as it is cheaper to use chemicals than pure sugar. Always worth reading the ingreidnet list.
