Sardines! what do I do with them?

I had a tin in the cupboard (that I forgot to had over to the kid's school for the harvest festival!) and full of good omega 3 intentions, I took out the sardines and gave them to the kids.

Of course, they absolutely love them but I am the original non-fish eating woman so have no idea what to do with them other than taking them out of the tin and putting them on a plate.

I've looked up a few recipes but they all look very 'adult' if you know what I mean. So what do I do with them?

Mine eat them on toast, sometimes with beans.

Mmm, on toast, definitely. Or with crusty bread and salad (though not very wintery food)

I just chuck any tinned fish into a tomato sauce (fry onions add tinned tomatoes, herbs, garlci and any other veg you fancy) add to pasta with cheese or cook with rice to make a sort of risotto.

I can't stand sardines, just the look of them scares me off!

We buy the ones in oil but mine actually really like the ones in a tomato sauce. I am with you in that I hate fish, eurgh.

Ooh, yes, on toast. Mash some butter and salt and pepper in for you (if you're not dieting) and then put them on top of some toast and under the grill again. Or you could put them on a pizza with other fishy things, make it a marinara.

Yes, I must admit, I got them out of the tin in the corner of the kitchen so the kids couldn't see me gagging at the smell!

I feed my kids all sorts of fishy food, I always tell them its Tuna! They love Tuna so eat it all up!

We have them on toast (well pilchards not sardines) and we also buy the ones in tomato sauce. I mash them with a little vinegar, spread on toast and pop back under the grill to warm through.
