I second that-warm chicken liver sald with chopped bacon added and a warm balsamic dressing.

I fry some onion and garlic, stick in the chicken livers then add grain mustard, a dash of sherry and whatever else is lying around the kitchen (balsamic vinegar usually). Mushrooms are nice as well. Then serve with salad and a baguette. Very good.

Sounds nice but dh can't eat mushrooms. Would that matter at all?

What exactly is a hot chicken liver salad? I have some rocket and a small amount of watercress, also bacon, onions mustard, sherry etc. What else would I need?

watches with interest

I think the hot salad is the best option
I once made some pasta sauce from chicken livers from an Italian recipe and made the pasta too. It was all very pink.

have you plucked your eyebrows yet, DG? I think about you each time I take up the tweezers

Mushrooms not essential in any way. You could use sliced peppers instead.

Dunno the exact ingredients - dh is the cook here

AFAIK it is normal salad stuff with slithers of hot (fried) chook livers

Pink? There are some things that should never be pink and food is one of them! (Eton mess excepted).

No Suzy, I am as bushy as ever! No-one ever persuaded me to take the plunge!

Hmmmm, salad might be considered a bit lightweight for dh (unreformed Australian man here!) though it would suit me fine as I am trying to shed a pound or two.

Any other ideas before I make dh feel like an unloved rabbit?

I make chicken liver risotto, it's delicious. I fry the chicken livers in olive oil or butter and add towards the end.

Recipe, Bran? I am not one of these "chuck it all in and it will be perfect" girls, I need recipes!

I think I just used the recipe on the packaging for the rice and added the fried chicken livers.

I'm staying with my parents this week, otherwise I'd go and get the recipe now. I'll have a google.

This one is quite similar to mine except that I added leeks with the mushrooms and I didn't use bacon or garlic.

I sometimes cook it with onions, bacon and occasionaly, beansprouts for extra crunch.
Sprinkle an oxo over it all whilst frying and add a small amount of water to make a little bit of gravy.

Serve with mash potato.

Its lovely with salad though.

Do a stirfry. If you have a bit of garlic, ginger, any sort of veg, soy sauce, sherry - slice the veg roughly the same size and thickness, fry it all up and serve with rice or noodles. You can add in a bit of chopped bacon for extra flavour.

Thanks. Just to let you know I did Bran's risotto recipe though without the mushrooms as dh can't eat them. It was a bit salty (and I did not actually put in any salt, just the stock and bacon and cheese combined made it salty, but with mushrooms it would have been lovely. Oh we had it with rocket salad, so I felt I made good use of everyone's suggestions!
