WHY DOES SHE HATE THE HIGHCHAIR!!!

6 & 3/4 month daughter eats everything i give her, but each time I put her in the highchair before I feed her she has histrionics! I give a toy as I put her in, to try and distract her, but still she screams. Most meal times she does eventually calm down once the food is in her mouth and enjoys her nosh, but tonight she was sooooooo upset, I had to take her out, calm her and then finish feeding her on my lap - clearly not ideal. I make sure she's not too tired when I feed, always offer plenty of water which she takes... any ideas?!!!???

do you give her lots of forwarning that she's going into her highchair? you could try that if you don't, also do you feed her at the table with the rest of you? as it makes them realise they can't reach the table and join in from a normal size chair Is it the type of chair where you can take the tray off the front with them in it? if so, you could take it off and push her up to the table with you?

Can you only put her in once the food is ready ? Perhaps it is frustration.

Thanks for the suggestions - I put her bib on before the highchair so I'm pretty certain she knows it's coming. Yes, I have taken the tray off. Food is always ready before she's in. BUT will try giving her a rusk before she goes in.

I agree with bloss -- for my ds (now 23 mos), the trick was to give him a piece of pear (his fave food) before putting him in the chair. However, this only worked for a month or so. Since then, he has gone through periods of loathing the chair and periods of having no problem with it at all. Totally inexplicable. Just try to stick with it and don't leave her in there for too long, as she will come to hate the chair if she is left there to scream. I know exactly what you're going through. My son drove us crazy with this issue!

Mine went throught this phase - and it was just a phase. Then it was having hysterics about going in carseat, then having nappy changed, then going in buggy - just their way of telling you who is boss! It will pass - just persevere with putting her in I'd say (it's not too snug is it?) have you tried someone else's high chair just to see?
