Ok guys, further to my earlier thread about my inpet attempts to make a cake for ds's birthday, I'm going to try. I need a recipe for a 13.5 x 9 inch rectangular cake tin please!

p.s. as my tin doesn't have a removable base do I need to use greasproof paper so that I'll be able to get the cake out in one piece?

Delia has a recipe for an all in one sponge. To scale up this recipe you will need to use 16oz flour/sugar/fat and the same weight in eggs (around 7-8 eggs).

And you will need to line the base with greaseproof paper (then grease the paper and the sides of tin thoroughly) or use baking parchment and just grease the sides of the tin. I don't know how long it would take to cook, but be prepared to switch oven down after 45 minutes and let it then finish cooking slowly without further browning.

boo64 -if it makes you feel any better I've just made DS's birthday cake and its turned out like a discus (only heavier ).

Hopefully he won't mind as his only request was that he has a chocolate cake and it is chocolate (its just its also very flat and very heavy). He'll be 3 BTW.
