Dried beans

Use a lot of tinned beans in cooking like kidney beans, butter beans, canellini beans and chickpeas. Through laziness i suppose.
I would like to change to dried beans as just realised the tins of organic beans I've been buying are in tins lined with plastic linings containing BPA.
Do dried beans taste the seem? Presume will need to be more organised but overnight soaking etc?
Any hints, tips and recommendations much appreciated.

There was a thread on here yesterday about someone who ate soaked but uncooked beans, you need to be careful to cook them well after soaking due to toxins in the beans etc.

Do you have a pressure cooker? No need to soak and you can do bulk batches, freeze and then use as you would canned.

I used to cook a big batch of dried beans and freeze them in 400g (one can's worth) lots

Where do you buy them? I love cooking with dry beans, find the sline around tinned beans a bit icky. Can't find them where I normally shop. We are close to a big Asda, a small Sainsbuys, a small M&S, and a small Coop; none have them. I used to get them from a large Sainsbuys, but we moved away.

Re cooking, soak for at least 12h, cook in clean water for 1/2h, rinse, then treat like tinned beans (but tastier!)

Great advice thanks. Got some from Tesco. Must check local health food shop too.

Yes, you can cook conventionally and freeze but need to soak first.
Asda normally have a "world food"aisle in the bigger stores, where they are a lot cheaper and in bigger bags than the normal aisle.
Indian or other ethnic grocers are also good if you have any near you.

Dried chickpeas are brilliant, gives them a really good soaking, and then use a slow cooker if you have one. Best of all are butter beans, they taste fantastic in a stew with loads of chorizo! And they don’t go all mushy like the tinnned ones. If you have a good International supermarket anywhere near you, stock up.

How do you do them in a slow cooker, please? Just soak overnight and then shove in slow cooker with fresh water?
