Pressure cookers- do you use/own one now or should they go back to the 70's?

I remember my mum having a pressure cooker. It terrified me. Every time she used it I was convinced that it was going to explode. And why she felt the need to cook the green beans/ carrots etc in it on a Sunday still puzzles me. Anyhow, zip forward to 2017 and I'm wondering if my kitchen would benefit from one of these. I'm a pretty proficient cook and have cooked professionally ( outside catering/ cooking dinner parties in people's houses) so I'm comfortable in my kitchen. I recently saw someone cook a piece of belly pork in under 60 mins. The pork was as soft as butter. So it got me wondering if they are useful in today's kitchen. And since I am a recent convert to MN and I try to read/ comment on as many threads as possible and bore my poor husband to death by reading posts constantly to him my first port of call was here. Although I am unsure if I have posted this in the right place I couldn't find anywhere else that I thought was suitable.
So, do you have a modern pressure cooker? Do you use it? What do you cook in it? Are they worth the cost? Which one would you reccomend? Does it just sit on your self next to the pasta machine and bread maker mocking you? Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Instant Pot. Love it. Use it most days. I cook joints, stews, soups, curries, steam veg and potatoes, make yogurt, cook rice, you name it. You can sauté in it to brown/soften, then cook with the lid on. Great customer support via FB group.

Instant pot and a Clipso. Love them both. The Instant Pot is pretty hands-off and the Clipso feels solid. I tend to use them more in winter for beef in Guinness, other stews, meat pie filling, beans, stocks, rice pudding... It's good for tenderising pork ribs before coating them in barbecue sauce and grilling. I would recommend a pressure cooker if you like to cook tough cuts of meat or beans, as it really cuts down on the cooking time.

Kuhn Rikon pressure cooker here. One of the best things in my kitchen. Great for cooking loads of pulses, soups and stews. Makes excellent risotto and French onion soup. I do cook veg in it as they only take a minute!

I don't understand the love for slow cookers (which produce watery crap IMO) when such amazing things as pressure cookers.

Part of the Instant Pot craze here Grin

I got mine in last years Black Friday sale and it's been in regular use since, love it! I had been worried it might be a sandwich toaster equivalent but it really isn't, wouldn't be without it.

I bought an old unused Clipso from a charity shop recently, mainly cooked gammon joints in it so far but will use it more in winter along with slow cooker for stews. I use my slow cooker when I'm back late so tea is ready when I get in as I just want to eat by that time!

I have 2, a big one and a small one. I use the for stocks, soups, spiced red cabbage, beef olives, lots of things. I do not generally use them for quick meals.

I love pressure cooking (and hate slow cookers- I think they're two different mind sets) and use mine twice a week or more. Veg soup, risotto, stew, delicious homemade ragù in an hour instead of 3, dried pulses, hard veg takes just the time to whistle, then switch off.

Mine is a Lagostina, basically just a 20cm saucepan with a spring- loaded lid, so I keep it out all the time as my everyday saucepan and use a normal lid.
Using it with an induction hob that has a timer means I can get food on the table fast AND not watch over it either!

This is like the one I bought 10 years ago and haven't had to replace anything on. I have one. I use it once every couple of weeks. I use it to cook chunks of red meat (lamb or beef) or whole chickens before adding to sauces. I also make a wicked vegetable soup in it.

I love my pressure cooker.

Stews, pulled pork, pulses, puddings - all done in a fraction of the time. Saves money and energy!

With pressure cooking I get the impression that flavours are really "forced" through the meat or hard stuff like pulses or pumpkin. So ideal for dishes like chilli or curry, red wine or beer in wintry stews.... Mouthwatering!
