Why do I cock up boiled eggs?

Need a foolprrof way to softly boil eggs please.

Follwed our Tana Ramseys advice last night. 5 mins in boiling water. Hard boiled they were.

How do you do it? Hardboiled is just not the same....

I've no idea what either says but I'm sure you should be using Delia rather than Tana Ramsey for the perfect boiled egg

I put them in cold water and turn the heat on, watch the water and when it gets to a rolling boil I set the timer for 3 mins. Always come out fine that way.

hmmm, I always do 5 mins in boiling water too. try 4 mins?

I have a little egg gadget thing that I put in the pot with the eggs. It changes colour as the eggs cook, iyswim. You learn what point you like your eggs at, and you know when to take them out.

Otherwise, you have to adjust for how fast they boil, whether you put them in cold water or boiling water, how many eggs, were they in the fridge or out, etc etc etc.

The egg gadget costs about £5 and is at John Lewis. I'm sure it's at Lakeland too.

I do Delias way place in pan of boiling water on hob for exactly one min then remove from heat and cover and leave for seven mins perfect every time.

I usually get it wrong too.

I hate any raw white (makes me want to boak just thinking about it) but at the same time like the yolk runny.

I tend to put the egg into boiling water for 4.5 mins. If theres still raw white when I cut the top off I just put the top back on the egg and leave it for a couple of mins to carry on "cooking".

I usually do 5 mins in water which is gently simmering not bubbling if you get what I mean!
