Have fallen in love with Tesco's Granola Slices - anyone got a recipe?

Bought a pack of Tesco Granola Slices yesterday and can't keep my grubby mits off them. Anyone have a recipe? The Tesco ones appear to be mainly oats, sunflower, pumpkin & linseeds, and condensed milk, but is there more to it than just bunging all that together and bunging in the oven?

i've been watching your thread to see if any good recipes come up...
Saw your post, and have got a pregnancy craving

So now I'm on the hunt for a recipe - came across this: www.vegfamily.com/vegan-recipes/desserts/chewy-granola-bars.htm

might be worth a try, but I'm going to keep on searching...

What are the full ingredients... I wouldn't have thought that would hold together.

They're apparently not in my local Tescos (and its a huuuuuge one) as I was going to add them to my shopping delivery to see what they're like. Bah!

Ok, I've found them and it doesn't look overly different to my flapjack recipe... You'd need to adjust the amount of oats and replace it with appropriate amounts of the seeds.

250g porridge oats (the cheap type, not large ones),
150g Butter,
2 generous table spoons Golden Syrup
half a tin condensed milk,
100g demerera sugar
baking tin, no bigger than about 18cm x 28cm

Method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 160 degrees c
  2. Line the baking tin with baking parchment.
  3. Melt the butter in a large saucepan over a medium heat and add the sugar and syrup. Keep gently heating and stirring until all is melted and mixed. If it starts to boil take it off the heat!
  4. Add the condensed milk and mix. Bring to the boil for about a minute.
  5. Remove from the heat and gradually add the oats, folding them in. All the oats should be coated, and the mixture quite dense, but still sticky. Don't add so many oats that the mixture becomes dry.
  6. Pour the mixture into the tins and spread about so that it lines the tin to a depth of 2-3cm. Don't squash the mixture in, just spread it evenly.
  7. Bake in the oven for about 15mins. You should take them out when they just start to go brown round the edges, don't leave longer than this. If they're still squidgy in the middle that's fine, they set on cooking.

My Tescos order had just arrived with packets of pumkin, sunflower and linseeds... I hope I've got condensed milk in the cupboard!

ok I made the one from vegan lunchbox 9the 2nd link). - think yours may be tastier though! These aren't bad, but think I'd add a bit of honey next time. Needs a bit more sugar me thinks! Am going to try them out on the kids now..

1 cup whole spelt flour
1 cup rolled oats
¼ cup prune purée or one 2.5 oz container baby prunes
½ cup currants or finely chopped raisins
½ cup dried apricots, chopped fine
1 cup walnuts, chopped
â…“ cup water

Preheat the oven to 325ºF. Lightly coat an 8-inch x 8-inch pan with nonstick spray and set aside.

Combine all the ingredients in a large bowl and knead with your hands until a good, stiff dough forms. Add a tablespoon of water if the mixture is too dry. Press dough firmly and evenly into the prepared pan. Cut into squares with a sharp knife before placing in the oven.

Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until baked through but still soft (don?t overbake them or the bars will be tough). Store leftover bars in the refrigerator.

I made the flapjac recioe but used 100g oats and 50g each of golden linseed, punpkinseeds and sunflower seeds. I also switched the syrup for honey as I had no syrup and it worked perfectly (although I did put too much honey in which made the a bit on the sicky side). Honey and seeds? It's virtualll healthy...
