Grated Leeks??!?

Ok, I've gone grating-mad. The latest Abel and Cole flyer thing mentioned grated leeks in salad, so I tried it. Very hard to grate, and just produces a green sharp-smelling mush. Am I missing something?

But, see, lots of other foods become edible raw if you grate them. Beetroot and cabbage spring to mind, both are lovely raw, grated, in a salad ...

if you grate leeks you might as well grate onions imho.

nasty stuff.

grated root vegetables are a whole different ball game, no arguments there.

raw leeks are nice. Very nice on salads, cause they taste so oniony (if you like oniony taste on salad of course).

But I wouldn't grate them, I would slice them finely, and then use your fingers to separate them and they would look prettier too.

Oh. And use a food processor with the fine slicer thingy...

Ah, yes, hadn't thought of trying the mandoline, that might work.

I do like oniony, in moderation. Just not too keen on strange green goo.

Ooh, try raw brussels sprouts salad with a citrussy / nutty dressing. It is quite scary but good (have recipe somewhere if you like)

abel and cole recipes VILE imo, they seem to be some sort of joke half the time. can't see how a leek could be grated, you'd have to shred it with processor.

Oh, I always end up shredding brussel sprouts, they're nice stirfried with a bit of bacon.

I will try shredding them and eating raw, too.

Good god, am I becoming a raw food nut vegetarian sort of person?

Finely shredded raw leeks are yum, NQC. Nice in a salad
