Flaxseed / linseed

Just wondering what ways I could add milled flaxseed into my diet. Many suggestions are on the packaging (along with a great big list of all the benefits!) but I tried it for the first time the other day and thought it was very gritty. Any ideas / experience would be greatly appreciated?

If making your own bread, include it in that.

I have it with natural or greek yogurt, almonds, and fruit. I've started grinding the seeds myself (DH bought a lot, I suspect they go through undigested if left whole) and they aren't gritty at all. Maybe you could try giving yours an extra whizz and see if that helps?

I mix 1-2 tsp into 1/4 glass water & leave to soak for about 10 mins & just drink, followed by another glass or cup of something. It sort of swells so easier to swallow. Better with the cracked seeds rather than the milled stuff but still doable.

I've put linseed in musesli mix, nutty biscuits and bread rolls.

Someone posted a cereal bar recipe on the frugal meals thread recently

I have also added a spoonful to rice and curry before and you don't really notice the texture once it's mixed in. Also with yoghurt but I don't really enjoy it like that.

I read that greatest benefit is to eat it raw.
I would say eating it for fiber content would allow baking/cooking with it.
If you are after oil it contains then you can't heat it.

I buy it ready ground from Holland And Barratts- ( think its called Linwood? or something similar ) I put a couple of tablespoons over my cereal in a morning

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm actually on a mission to add some healthy calories to my diet and came across it in the supermarket. It suggests 30g / day which once in a bowl seems an awful lot. Thanks again plus any more ideas would be wonderful.
