Asparagus?

I like it and we occasionally get it (it is quite expensive so not a regular purchase) but we only ever have it steamed. Any other ideas please? :)

My favourite way of serving asparagus is steamed, tossed in a little melted butter and sea salt and then dipped in soft boiled eggs (like soldiers), yum!

Toss them in a little olive oil, salt and pepper and roast them in a hot oven for about 15 minutes. My ds loves them this way.

I griddle it on a hot pan without oil as it gets really tender & crispy at the same time. Then chop it up and add to salads or on top of risotto.

Or wrap it with pancetta and stick in a hot oven until it's all crisp. YUM!

It hasn't arrived yet has it? We tend to keep it simple - boiled, served with butter and very finely grated Parmesan and a poached egg. I like it dipped into a buttery egg. Further on in the seasoned we BBQ it but simply.

I love this asparagus under wraps recipe.
But we only eat asparagus in June, I kind of thought that was the only time you 'could'. Even though I suppose I know I do see it in the shops all year round these days, I have stuck with the June only rule (clearly an old gimmer).

My fav for asparagus is as a starter - griddled (altho can be oven roasted) asparagus with a balsamic shallot vinaigrette.

Or oven roasted with peppers, courgettes etc and mixed with couscous with lots of mint and coriander.

Roasted with sea salt, olive oil and bit of balsamic.

Wrapped with parma ham and baked.

If you steam it, then at last minute shove in some baby spinach to wilt, then take off steamer and melt in some butter, plus adding salt and pepper.

Agree about the pee....always weird if you're staying with someone after a dinner party, and there's a general no flush for night pees rule! Do you ignore the rule or have pungent fousty asparapee smell!!!

Apparently, the ability to smell asparagus wee is genetic - not everyone can smell the compound (name escapes me) that causes it.

My good food magazine arrived yesterday for May - full of lovely asparagus - I cant wait! Generally griddle it in a little bit of olive oil and sprinkle with parmesan shavings.

Griddled would do just as well.

May try the parmesan shavings suggestion, but I love the flavour as it is.

The compound is mercaptans I believe. It's the same stuff they add to natural gas so you can smell it.

I can smell it but DH cannot. We've never experimented to find out if that's coz his pee doesn't smell or if he can't smell the change in mine.

We can all smell asparagus wee. Ds2 wont eat it as he hates the wee smell. Everyone else loves it though.

Griddled and served with lemon mayonnaise or hollandaise here, or sometimes with a garnish of cubed fried black pudding or bacon. Also good in a creamy sauce served with chicken breast.

In the oven with a drizzle of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Only takes about 6 mins but lovely on the side of steak, chicken etc.
also enjoy it with poached egg and hollandaise sauce but I tend to save that for eating out DH don't like hollandaise sauce.

Everyone's wee will smell to some degree, but not everyone will be able to detect the smell. Same with foxes, not everyone can detect fox scent.

I like my asparagus griddled/grilled or BBQd if we ever get a summer remembers last Easter we had a BBQ, sighs
