I seem to remember Paul Hollywood showed a tip to soften butter for baking.
Well my kitchen is arctic this evening, the microwave is bust, so does anyone have a top tip? I need to make the Christmas cake tonight.

Mary Berry cuts it into squares and leaves it in lukewarm water for i can't remember how long. Apparently it's the perfect temperature after that.

Marry Berry did this on great British bake off
cube butter, then place in a bowl of warm water for a few minutes - maybe you can find it on youtube?
