Wondering if any of you lovely mns have any good ideas for Halloween and or bonfire night party foods?!
P.s dh has yearned for homemade Parkin every year but I just can't seem to get hang of it. Any failsafe recipes/shop bought recommendations?

This is my nanny's recipe and always works fine for me. I actually put it in two loaf tins rather than one big tin so I can freeze one.

Parkin

8oz plain flour
8oz medium oatmeal
4oz granulated sugar
1lb golden syrup
1/2 pint milk
1 teaspoon bicarb of soda
3 tsps ground ginger
1 tsp mixed spice
8 oz margarine

Grease and line large baking tin.

Method

Pre-heat oven to 130c

Mix marg, syrup, sugar and milk in a pan. heat over a low heat until melted.

Mix flour, oatmeal, bicarb, ginger and spice in a large mixing bowl.

Mix liquid into dry ingredients and stir slowly. Pour into prepared tin and bake in oven for 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 hours. Check after one hour.

Peel some grapes, stick in Olive Oil, tell the kids they're eyeballs.
