mouldy baby food!

Hi ladies,

Yesterday I bought 3 jars of 'Organix' baby food, within an hour of purchase I opened them. One jar was rock solid (couldn't even get the spoon through it) and the other two jars were FULL of mould!
After phoning 'Organix' to complain they told me I should of added milk/water to the solid jar until mushy enough to eat, but as I bought it to feed straight from the jar I didn't think that was acceptable. They have offered to refund me the £0.57 each for the two mouldy jars and that is all.

Am I being unreasonable or should I push this matter more to them as they did not seem to bother about selling very mouldy baby food.

I would appreciate any advice.

YANBU.... Mouldy either means contamination or a bad seal on the jar or both. All which should really have them leaping around their production line, looking for arses to kick. 'Solid' doesn't sound right either... are they saying the stuff can somehow get dehydrated in a sealed jar? Did they ask you for batch numbers?

If you bought it from a supermarket, I would complain to them. Customer services at Sainsbury, for example, are much freer compensating customers with manufacturers' cash than the manufacturer themselves, I find.....

Yuk! I'd make sure that you let the supermarket know, both to complain but also because they might not be the only mouldy jars on the shelf and the supermarket will need to take some action with the suppliers. You may also want to get in touch with the food standards agency (not sure if that's the right name) and your local food safety officers as mould in baby food sounds pretty serious to me. At least the mould put you off, but there maybe others which are not mouldy yet but still contaminated/badly sealed.

I suspect the powers that be at Organix are actually extremely bothered at selling mouldy baby food. Write to the chief exec by name. It's not exactly good PR!

I have wrote to the supermarket I bought them from and haven't heard back yet. They are saying the solid food is due to starch from the potatoes, but I thought jars would preserve everything as they are when going in the jar? Yes they asked for batch numbers and said they have had a lot of complaints about solid food but none for mould.

kick up a fuss.... and that they think its ok for baby jarred food to be rock solid
