What does your one year old eat?

My ds is getting sick to the back teeth of Ella's kitchen pouches. I am devoid of time and inspiration, what does your one year old eat? Quick and easy, please. No complicated recipes, my new year resolve isn't that strong.

Also, I only have a teeny tiny freezer, so can't bulk cook.

Mine is 11 months and is starting to eat like us or she goes bonkers.
Favorites are pasta and sauces, pulses pots, raw apple, carrots and cucumbers, couscous (bot grain and stew), soup thickened with baby cereals, risottos, fishes, anything really Grin but that another story Blush

My DD just eats what we eat. Just simple homecooked food. Curry, casserole, pasta, pizza, roast dinners, stirfry...

I occassionally freeze leftovers, but generally cook each evening.

What do you normally eat? Can that not be given to him as well?

My dd is nearly one. We are lucky. She eats everything really. She enjoys pasta, veg korma ( her favourite) sandwiches, bananas, cheese etc etc

Why not try a lunch of mushy veg and salmon?
Cheese sandwiches? Chopped up grapes and apples?
Tuna risotto?
Dd also likes mini quiches. Why not buy a baby cookbook and work from that? A lot of them realise that mums want recipes that are quick, easy and healthy. A lot can be frozen for later use.

Our schedule is thus:

Monday - at home with me
Tuesday - nursery (no issue)
Wednesday - nursery (no issue)
Thursday - at home with my mum (who needs something easy left to cook for him)
Friday - as Thursday
Saturday - with us
Sunday - with us

We tend to eat quite late, once the children have gone to bed, and usually I only cook once they have gone to bed. Ds is not the type of child that will happily coo whilst I cook a family meal. He will be hanging off my leg, swinging on the oven door, doing some serious low-level whinging.

Not to sound defeatist, or 'owt. I need to be able to cook him little mini-meals. Dd is a different story. She is currently existing on crispbreads and pasta

Save your evening meal for his lunch the next day?

Report
mosschops30 · 04/01/2011 15:58

ds2 eats everything (including dog biscuits if im not watching him Wink).
He will have pouches or pots of baby food if we're eating too late, but then I will make some up for him and give it to him next day for lunch.

He eats leftover cooked dinners, sausages, casseroles, stir frys, fish, absolutely anything, but he's like a human dustbin Grin

Like ruddy I used to keep a bit of the diner for the next day.
"pulses pots", are lentils and sausages with onions, carrots, or cassoulets types or chili con carne... Not a veggie then!

But both DDs likes spinash/paneer indian not too spicy

DS is 55 weeks old and eats what we eat. If it is something wildly inappropriate, like a strong curry for example, I cook him an egg with toast and fruit. He eats apples and pears whole but won't touch a banana (never has - he's weird).

My 11 and a half month old DS loves pasta, cheese, risotto, fish, egg done any way, meat casserole & rice, liver & veggies, avocado and wants a bit of whatever I'm eating.

The only thing he despises is yoghurt. Why??

He has no teeth... well, one is finally coming through. So some foods are a bit difficult still, but he generally likes to eat.

What do you feed them for breakfast guys? I'm still giving him baby cereal Plum Baby 4 Grain Superporridge with fruit puree & formula. He likes Weetabix too, but I haven't given him that in a while.

Mine (11 mo) is having toast and a piece of fruit. Save me feeding her Blush but she has 11 teeth and can chew. Sometimes yogurt or fruits puree and milupa 7 cereals/couscous or rice, if I have time to spoon feed her. But then she really like to eat like me or her sister. I have toasts, her sister has fruits and a tiny bit of corn flakes, her real breakfast is at school.
DD1 used to have weetabix (not available here).

My easiest meals for DS are a combination of alphabetti spaghetti, fish fingers, frozen peas/sweetcorn, cheese on toast, jacket potato, beans on toast (would do scrambled egg on toast if he'd eat it!).

I also cook tomato sauce and cheesy sauce for pasta and freeze them in weaning pots or ice cube trays - don't take up too much room and really quick to defrost.

I'd also second keeping portions of your evening meal where possible.

Made roast chicken/butternut/potato/sweet potato for lunch today. Blitzed it for DS - he wasn't into it & I froze the leftovers. Come dinner time I thawed a random container from the freezer... only to find it was the one I froze at lunch time. Aaarrgh! He still didn't like it.

I ate it.

DD2 is 14 months and just eats what we eat - but at the minute seems particularly partial to her sisters crayons and soap on a rope...

My 12 mo, like the others on here, eats what we eat or if we are eating late/something inappropriate, leftovers from the freezer. Absolutely anything left gets put into small pots and frozen :)

DS2 has been eating the same as DS1 since about 11mo, DS2 will eat anything but DS1's fussy and multi-allergic so I do tend to give them quick easy suppers that I know both will eat.

Pasta is perennial favourite - cheese sauce or Annabel Karmel's 'popeye' sauce, both dead quick to whip up (and take hardly any freezer space).

Cauliflower (or any veg) cheese - also dead easy, steam cauli and stir in cheese sauce

Pizza with 'funny face' veg on

Spaghetti and (shopbought) meatballs

Rice and peas/sweetcorn/carrots

Fish fingers, fish cakes, chicken dippers kind of thing

Eggs/beans/sardines on toast

Meat, veg, starchy food, dairy all in hand sized pieces on her tray from 8 months, same meal as we had but low salt gravy in casseroles etc.
Lunch, sliced meat cut up with bread fingers, cherry toms, cucumber or carrot sticks or omlette with cheese, ham, tomato in.

roast dinner = microwave 1 jacket potato and scoop out middle and mash with butter/milk/cheese + frozen veg put in pan or microwave. slice of sandwich meat i.e. chicken or beef in strips and a spot of gravy to moisten!

Healthy eating fish pie with tinned or frozen veg.
spagetti bolognese (strip to vest!!)Use quick pasta and packet prepped sauce.

Chips occasionally
curry and rice as per family (Korma/tikka and add sour cream to take heat out)

Practically anything except peanuts and honey.
For lazy cooking of fresh stuff just cook loads and freeze in small bags and just defrost as needed. No need to mash or puree.

By 11 mths babies gums are rock hard so chewing is not an issue and helps them to break through. It also is necessary to develop the muscles in the jaw which are needed to speak.

Mummy2Bookie - not sure how you've got arrogance from mamaloco's response.

Anyway.......... thanks to all for the ideas. I am armed with a shopping list.
