Now that's a good fishkeeper Good on him for doing the right thing, and he's lucky to find a vet that would operate. Vets don't tend to know a lot about fish but there are a few specialist ones around.

Saw this on fb , shame there are not more fishy vets out there though I don't think I could pay the huge vet bills for a fish.

I don't even know if you could get pet insurance for a fish. I'm sure the more expensive koi are insured against theft and whatnot, but not sure about actual pet insurance.
