Bought a female 2 weeks ago to keep with my male, they hadn't showed much interest in each other but this morning i caught them in the cave together (male rerely goes in there and would rather hang out on his rock), now the male is in there and the other fish are all hanging around him (female has gone to the other end of the tank), male seems to be trying to fight of the other fish so i am thinking 'he's guarding eggs'.

I'm worried my other fish will eat them, should i just let the male do his job and guard them? or should i move the cave with its eggs to my fry tank?

So excited about the thought of baby plecs Grin, how long do they take to hatch?

Ooh, exciting!! It does sound like spawning behaviour. I would leave them to guard the eggs. It will only take a few days for the eggs to hatch. Have you got some java moss in there? It's great for fry to hide in.

I'm about to go out so might try and get some jarva moss, there are loads of plants for fry to hid in but these are being hogged by guppy fry. Just messaged a friend to see if she will take some of my guppie baby's (the bigger ones) or my tank is going to be over stocked. One of my Mollies is in the cave going crazy so i asume she's trying to get to the eggs? my male is quite big so he should be able to guard them (i hope) without too many getting eaten.

The male has now left the cave Sad so doesn't look like there was any eggs (unless he has just got fed up of guarding them?) maybe he's just getting the cave ready (i hope). I want baby bristle noses!
