Is Star Wars suitable for a 6 year old? I've never been in the slightest bit interested in the series but my 6yo is very keen thanks to school friends.

Should he watch it?! Or is it a bit too violent, with swearing?

Star Wars is perfect for a six year old. No swearing at all! Some violence but it is all laser blasters and light sabres so not very realistic.

Depends which films I suppose, I think the original films are rated U and are pretty harmless - but Hayden Christensen’s upper body burning to a crisp and turning into Darth Vader in ‘Revenge of the Sith’ not so much maybe...

Avid Star Wars fan hee. I would say it's too much so young. Maybe better to watch the cartoon ones on Sky Tv!? Lot of high emotion and frightening scenes for such a young child

I would say it depends on which film, and also on your child.

One of my first cinema experiences was Return of the Jedi, and I remember it vividly. I was 5, and it set off a life long love of the films.

My own dc haven’t seen the films at such a young age - not because I do t think they’re suitable, but because they wouldn’t have coped. Eldest has no interest anyway, middle child recently watched them (all of them - agree with a pp that while original trilogy are mostly suitable, the newer films are not always) aged 12. My youngest is an avid Star Wars fan, but hasn’t yet seen the films (!) - he wouldn’t cope with the emotion and suspense. He has read the Lego Star Wars books, and watched droid tales (Star Wars retold in Lego animation) He’s 7.

I do have to add, my dc are ridiculously sensitive wrt films. Scared by loads of things (middle dc would only watch animated films until about 10, as couldn’t cope with ‘real’ people), and can’t just put aside things they have seen. I don’t think I was bothered at all by watching the original trilogy so young, but my dc would definitely have been.

DD was a bit older when she watched the original film and she actually found it really slow and boring and compared to modern films it is pretty slow.

The proper star wars films go for it.

The prequels no. They are just rubbish cartoons.

The sequels...can't comment as severely lost interest after sitting through kylo ren throwing his toddler tantrums in the reboot posing as a sequel.

Rogue One is possibly a no for the age in question. Great film though.
