Thinking of starting the 5:2 diet with dh but have a quick question.

Do your fast days have to be a full day or can you do say midday Monday to midday tuedsday?

They have to be a full day. Counting sleeping hours as "fasting" is cheating a bit. Well that's my interpretation anyway!

However, there is some flexibility. I found splitting my 500 cals between breakfast and dinner too difficult, so instead I have lunch and dinner.

Not sure Dh could live on 600 calories a day. Not if he wants to stay married anyway!

The way I've understood it (and I'm sure it says this in the original Fast Diet book) is that you could fast (i.e only consume the 500 or 600 cals) during any 24hr period. So if it works easier for you to fast from breakfast one morning until breakfast the following day, or lunchtime to lunchtime or dinner until dinner then do it.

Why would counting sleeping hours be cheating ? Surely if you're not eating then it makes no difference if you're awake or sleeping at the time and it may make the whole fasting process easier for some people if they are asleep.

I'm sure someone will be along to correct me if I've misinterpreted the book.
