Dark discharge and copper iud? Please help?

I had the copper coil inserted two weeks as emergency contraception and I hate it. I want it removed next period. For the last week I have had either thick mucus or else really dark almost black discharge. I need a liner every day.
Two days ago I thought my cycle was starting as I had normal pink bleed for two hours then it disappeared back to black. Had pink spotting again today and now nothing again although the black stuff has increased over the past few days. I haven't had any lower tummy cramps only lower back but nothing excessive.
I haven't had my period yet and I am worried it won't come as I don't have any period symptoms. I have tested negative to pregnancy though. Can anyone please share their stories about their first month with the paraguard? Does it sound like my period may come soon? Any opinions would be great thanks

I had it in for five weeks and bled continuously. The pain was horrendous so I eventually had it removed. If it’s still in place I wouldn’t really worry about pregnancy. I couldn’t tell you if I had a period with it in as I bled constantly but this could go on for a long time or just not stop for the duration of use. Or it could stop, only thing is you will just never know. If you are unhappy with it I would discuss trying something else. I think having these put in as emergency contraception is a really bad idea as they cause so many other problems long term, they really aren’t a decision to be made lightly. Wishing you all the best. Hope this helps!

Hey,

I've had mine in 2 months now, and experiencing the same problem. I bleed really heavy on my period, and when I'm not on, I get really brown discharge and brown mucus. It's made me really self conscious down there. I went to my doctors for the 6 week check up and they said it would settle down but it hasn't. I've asked to have it out, but they said to wait at least 3 months to see how I get on with it. It's also making me feel really spaced out and wavey and I feel like I'm going to pass out at times.

I haven't had a great experience so far with mine, but I'm going to give it 1 more month to see if it improves

Why did they say to wait three months? Surely if you want it out it's your decision

They said the symptoms may reduce as some people get the same and they reduce with time. and I've had bad experiences with contraception in the past.

I've had the copper coil in for about 14 months. The heavy and long (up to 2 weeks) periods are still there, super size tampons and super pads standard, once it was so bad I went to A and E! And lately I have also been getting the brown discharge every single day when not on my period. It actually looks like the colour of copper! I will also get a smear test as am worried but it looks like a common symptom of the coil. I am tired of using a panty liner every day and worrying about staining my clothes during period but I'd still rather this than another baby or the hormonal IUD as I am a complete nutcase on anything hormonal! (plus at least getting a period I can be relieved I am not pregnant!)
