Femulen and breastfeeding

Hello, I am breastfeeding my 8 month old son, and was prescribed Femulen by the GP as a contraceptive. This was months ago, and I can't remember the specific instructions she gave about when to start it. Leaflet says to start on the first day of my period. However, my periods have not yet returned, most likely due to breastfeeding. I do not want to get pregnant at the moment, so don't want to take any risks, and he is bf/ing less as time goes on, so I assume the contraceptive protection of breastfeeding is reduced. Do I have to wait for my periods to come back to start this pill?

no, you can start it at any time as long as you are sure you arent pregnant. Netdoctor says this:

You can also start taking this pill at any other time in your cycle if your doctor is reasonably sure that you are not pregnant. If you start taking this pill at any other time in your cycle, you will need to use additional contraception, eg condoms for the first two days of pill taking.
