Is there anybody on Cerazette that doesnt have nasty side affects?

Hi, yesterday I as prescribed Cerazette as I am having really heavy periods.I also have endometriosis and a choc cyst on my ovary she also found I have high blood pressure yesterday- though that could be to do with visiting the doctors. My husband has had a vasectomy so its not for contraception. My doctor is hoping this will help with the heavy periods but I have read nothing but bad reviews and need to hear the positive side ( if there is one).
Thanks

I was fine on it and before that fine on Micronore which I know many people don't like. I had extremely light periods which was great!

No problems for me and no periods at all , but like you I have read loads of people suffering bad effects.

I would say, give it a go, but watch out for effects and change if necessary.

I have gained weight but I'm prone to that anyway

Yep Cerazette got me pregnant as well, well obviously it was DP who did that.
I only had 1 period in the 14m I was on it, an absolute nightmare that one was, luckily the only one as was pregnant the next month.
On the implant now and had 5 periods in 8 weeks in December and looks like doing that this month as well.
I think I would prefer the Cerazette if only it didn't fail as a contraceptive

It's not really the best treatment for heavy bleeding with someone with high bp.
Have you tried ponstan or considered a mirena coil??

Report

Really dont want the mirena coil. I know everbody is different but my close friend went nuts on it and had real problems getting it taken out. My doctor has suggest Ponstan as an alternative if the pill doesnt work.My blood pressure was only high on the last reading i dont usually have any problems.

no problems on cerazette for about three years, no periods at all from day 1 till the end.
quite a horrible couple of months when i stopped taking it but all back to normal without any hormonal contraception now (prep for ttc this year).

Hi there, I am on cerazette it's apparently a good pill for those of us with Endo - I was diagnosed with severe endometriosis 4 years ago.

It took a bit of time at the start, think it was about 6-8 weeks where I had continous light bleeding which because of the Endo caused constant discomfort. However once it kicked in I haven't had a period since ( been on it for about 2 years now) as I don't take a break in between.

For me it has been brilliant, no periods and no excruciating pain. I didn't want the coil as I had to go on zoladex for 6 months to try to reduce the endo and it was horrible, I felt exhausted and depressed all the time, so I think I'm a bit sensitive to hormone changes. I'm sure they gave me ponstan but it didn't seem to help me at all and it made me feel sick.

I loved it. Not a period in sight for the 4 years I was on it.

I came off it with no ill effects either - pregnant within 6 weeks.

Maybenow - lots of people seem to get a fertility surge when they come off Cerazette (not sure if this is true of all hormonal pills) so you may want to try now!! There was a thread on it a few weeks ago and some people got pregnant before their period even returned.

My periods came back regular as clockwork and i was pregnant 3 months after coming off

Can i ask? How do you take it?
Continueusly or for 21 days then break for 7?

Report
maybenow · 27/03/2012 21:24

yeh, i heard about the surge - but i've got a big adventure/dangerous sports trip planned in June. Can't possibly do it pregnant. Sort of like a 'last hurrah' for a while to the sport i train in.

maybe i should have stayed on the pill till June but having not had a period in 3yrs then been on combined pill for 5 years before that i wanted to see if i was ovulating and what my natural cycle would be like.

Personally, I absolutely love Cerazette - have been on it for about 9/10 months now and not had one period since the beginning. Before they were absolutely horrendous - heavy, and awful pain.
Even on Celeste/Microgynon, it made no difference to my periods really - but cerazette has been brilliant.
Haven't really noticed much weight gain, but I think all pills are bound to make you put on a little bit of weight because of the hormone changes you go through.
ihatethecold You take it continuously for 28 days (I think its that!) and then go onto the next packet as soon as you've finished the previous one.
