Can someone tell me about Scout camps? Are the girls and boys in separate sleeping areas/tents?

Dd has recently joined scouts and can't wait to go on camps. Looking at the Scouts website this seems to indicate that the Scouts does not separate the sexes for sleeping arrangements (which seems at odds with the NSPCC guidance). So that I can manage dd's expectations can anyone tell me what their experience of Scout camps has been (both in terms of this organisation and any general insight most welcome)?

At our group boys and girls are separated from Cubs upwards. Boys tents and girls tents (usually 4 in a tent)

Boys and girls are separated at ours too. Normally in small 2-4 man tents.

Yep, segregated sleeping at our camps too. The boys adore camp, and always come home filthy, exhausted but really happy and proud of themselves for having tried new things....

Presumably any "self identifying" trans kid will insist on sleeping in the girls tent, along with his penis. Good luck explaining that one to your Dd.

Yes, totally separate. At Beaver age, when they are mostly on halls flooors, it might be boys on one side, girls on the other, but changmgbwouod be done in bathrooms.

Thanks for all the responses so far it sounds as though the guidance re no separation on the grounds of sex is possibly the norm (does anyone have experience of the international camps?).

This has been coveted to some extent in the Victoria Derbyshire girl guides thread.

IIRC they have flexible rules as some troupe only have one female member and in some circumstances it could be more of an issue to have someone sleeping alone than to have a mixed sex group. I understand that the guidance emphasises that any cub or scout who uses eg a breast binder may need some privacy, and that whatever the sleeping arrangements are, all members and their parents need to agree and be comfortable with the plans - which at least gives the parents of a girl the chance to express discomfort with the idea of their daughter sharing accommodation with with Vanessa who just happens to have a penis.

I wonder if the people who are swallowing the Mermaids-generated guidance are assuming that all mtf transfer guides will be on hormones and therefore effectively chemically castrated and no threat? I know the statistics for adults show that 80% have no treatment or surgery but does anyone know the stats for what proportion of trans-identifying teenagers are on hormones?

Ours are separated from Beavers onward. For Beavers (6-8), they all sleep in the hall, but the girls are in a tent in the corner, so they have some privacy to change. For Cubs (8-10 1/2), the boys are in the hall and the girls in a side room.
Any issues of self-ID are far from our mundane sleepovers at the moment.

The official line is that sexes do not need to be separated as long as parents are in agreement. In practice, I don't know of any groups who don't have separate sleeping arrangements.
