Brexit

Brits in the EU - how are you doing?

Just thought I would start a thread as I am struggling a bit atm. We are about to go back to the UK for a holiday and have been arranging meet ups with friends - some of them Leavers. Now I have always tried to not let Brexit interfere with friendships but one such friend told me that she never really thinks about it anymore. It's just not important to her. So basically she voted my rights away, I've spent over 2 years of stress and hundreds of euros on trying to stay legally in my home and...for what? Something which just isn't important to her anymore. Just so fed up of it.

I work in EU for a UK employer. Project is funded by EBRD. If no deal happens likely that I will be out of a Job.

Maybe you should tell your friend exactly what you have told us, and then see if she still wants to meet up. I don't see how it can't affect the friendship to some extent.

Peregrina - you're probably right but we've been friends for over 30 years and if talking about it means the end of the friendship then that will be one more thing Brexit has taken from me. I actually dreamt the other night that she told me she had changed her mind and I felt as if a weight had been lifted - but it wasn't true!!

That's difficult. You can only hope that if Brexit happens, it isn't the brexit she wanted, but admittedly, that's a bit negative.

That's difficult. I think you should be honest as it will corrode your feelings towards her anyway, so she might as well know why.

I too have spent 100s of euros and jumped through many hoops to get an EU passport so that i can stay living in the EU with my DH and DC. Its been quite a bit of stress. But fortunately a) i could afford the time and money necessary (not everyone can) b) my home country has been extremely reasonable and communicative in their dealing with Brits in the country, c) i don't actually know any leavers (anymore) to feel enraged towards, for putting me and my family through this, to zero benefit for anyone.

I’ve taken citizenship here and my job is pretty safe, but a little concerned about DP. Am pretty resentful towards Leavers. We should be okay but many will not be, especially back in the UK. And yes, I blame them completely.

I feel quite resentful towards my friends who voted Brexit as their lives won't be made more complex whereas mine will.

I have opted to put it to one side and to try and separate politics from my friendships. This means avoiding the subject most of the time, but underneath the veneer of niceness I honestly think that they were complete morons to vote for Brexit.

I find it very strange that I can love them so much and get on with them so well, but when it comes to Brexit I look at them and inside my head I think you're fucking idiots!
