Mark Carney for PM

Calm voice of knowledge, reason and authority, in contrast to the jokes we have leading us. Hope he's not a conservative. Perhaps he could lead a new party, essential criteria to include all the above and a nice speaking voice.

Plus I want to jump him...

Mark Carney is the only source of reassurance for me right now.
(I also would)

I'd go for him (in every sense). Plus I'm having a little giggle at the upshot of this referendum being a foreign PM. Yes please!

Isn't he reassuring and calming?

Yes, he's lovely. I feel like he's a safe pair of hands.

There are some idiots calling for resignation, of course Confused Idiots.

I can't say I see him as a father figure Smile

My husband says we need a "Normal Party" to vote for. Perhaps he could be the figurehead!

Yes, normal party would be great. Candidates would be subject to the following essential criteria

Must have held normal job for at least 20 years
Evidence of sticking at jobs
No inherited wealth above £500k
Eton candidates needn't apply
No dodgy financial background
Must pass strict psychological and moral tests

Desired criteria:
Nice speaking voice

Anyone who has been on a demo is banned from candidacy. This includes me and I accept I am not sensible/cool headed enough.

Report
SwedishEdith · 05/07/2016 12:42

Funny, whenever I have a conversation about this, we all say "We just want a normal party".

He can deliver dreadful news in such a calm let's not panic tone. I'm in love with his voice at the moment.

Certainly makes up for Don Draper no longer being on telly. He can really OWN a suit, can't he?!

mollie123 · 06/07/2016 09:06

you only all love him because he wants to cut interest rates (shame about the savers but they are used to it!)
talking of spin and lies - prior to the referendum he was warning IRs would rise if we left the EU as he was firmly on the 'remain side' Angry so I am sure that garnered a few selfish 'remain votes'
FYI - he is paid nearly a million pounds a year for his job (which he does not do particularly well) which seems to be dithering over when or why IRs will increase or go down.

Grin Does anyone remember the outrage when he started with his enormous salary? I feel he has earned it with his air of calm, "I'll sort this" charm

mollie the happy news is that interest rates may indeed rise, later, when inflation starts to take off. Perhaps having gone negative first. Trying to manage the state of the economy using the fairly brutal economic levers at hand is really complicated work and where you see dithering, I see considering. In all seriousness I think he does his job well, in that he is giving (most of) us and the markets the idea he knows what he is doing and is actually prepared for this, rather than blundering about hopefully like in the last financial crisis. Panicking businesses, consumers and markets aren't good for the economy.

Love Carney, but Brexiters will point out he's an immigrant.

He actually is the Prime Minister, to all intents and purposes, and will be even after the next one is chosen.

He's 3 years into a 5 year contract. Let's hope he's persuaded paid shedloads of cash to stay as long as it takes. I'm actually vaguely anxious at the idea of him leaving.
