Leaving job and have got 'Exit' interview with bosses best buddy, hmmm.. shouldn't it be with HR / personnel?

I'm leaving my job next week and have been told I have an exit interview (yay!) but it's with one of my managers team, and her best buddy at work . I've never had an exit interview before but I would have hoped it would have been with the HR / personnel team.

I'm going to have to sit there with gritted teeth and be nice as pie if it's with my bosses friend. My boss is a bit of a nightmare and I don't want to pretend she is perfect.

Should I insist on a neutral person doing my exit interview?

off to bed now but will check back tomorrow. TIA.

Could you ring HR and ask that someone else, perhaps from HR, carry out the interview? WHere I work we give the option of a paper questionnaire instead. Good luck.

If you're not happy with the nominated person, say so to HR and ask that they either do it or find a manager from a completely different team. Or if you don't want to rock the boat by refusing this person, do as MadamDeathstare says and ask for a separate additional meeting with HR.

Good ideas . I might contact HR direct. I don't want (or need) to do a character assasination but my boss takes the piss and needs a rocket up her backside.

For what it's worth, when I finished at my last job, I thought about what I would get from my exit interview (nothing) and what it could potentially cost me (goodwill). I told HR that I had no issues to discuss, so we decided there was no need for such an interview.
