Transition from convenient job to get back on career ladder.

I've expressed an interest in a job to my manager today, it's actually a newly created role which will be between my team and my manager (a team leader). Obviously it is very early stages so nothing may come of it, but if I got it it would mean increasing my hours (although it may still be only about 0.8 FTE)
I've got a really flexible job at the moment - 21 hours a week with some extra unpaid leave in the holidays and although I am enjoying it at the moment, we go through long periods where it is quite boring. I've never been a TL before so would be an opportunity to gain some people management experience and move away from some of the technical aspect of my job but can't help but wonder whether I am mad.
I'm nearly 37 and can see that if I don't start trying to make opportunities that I will be in the same job in 20 years time, plodding along and wondering what happened.
Anyone else taken the plunge from convenient job for the family to a more career oriented one? ML x

Of course you're not mad. If you're happy doing the extra hours, go for it. You've got 20 years "shop-floor" experience, who else would know how to keep the team running smoothly.

If a management issue comes up, you'll know what to do but if you're not sure, you can always ask.

Good luck
