NHS payrise

Am I the only one who completely missed that the pay deal had been agreed? It's just taken me a good 10 minutes of searching to find an answer to whether the vote had even closed or not. (I'm not in a union so didn't vote).

From Unison:
"The NHS pay agreement – reached after months of negotiation between unions, employers and ministers – has been made possible with an extra £4.2bn of government funding. It means that there will be no negative impact on services or patients as a result of the increase in the NHS pay bill."

I have a couple of questions, if anyone knows!

1. at the time of the July pay, I'll have officially started maternity leave (18th July) but will still be in the full pay portion of the leave. Will I just receive the rise and the back pay as everyone else will?
   
   
2. my annual increment date is 1st September, have these now been reset due to the new scales and therefore I won't be getting this increment? (The increment is noted on my maternity payments breakdown provided by NHSBSA). Due to promotion last year, this will be the second time I've 'missed out' on my increment date in a row
   
   My HR department are useless - it was pulling teeth to get them to do anything regarding my maternity leave and I still have outstanding questions with them even though I'm on annual leave from now until maternity leave.
   
   Sorry for such a long post - I'm hopeful there's more knowledgeable people than me out there!!

Yes you will receive your back pay and increase like anyone else your back pay should be in your July pay packet possibly August

No your increment date will remain the same as far as we are aware with the information we have been provided so far, as you will just transfer onto the same pay point on the new payscales

I've been trying to find an answer to that increment question for a while now, it makes quite a difference to me salary wise as I'll be going from the first to second spine point - which is quite a jump and comes in just when my maternity will be dropping to half pay.

I thought your mat pay was calculated on your wage from 16-24 weeks, so the rise would only cover if it affected those weeks?

@wombats I also did have this concern, however, I'm purely office based and don't work any shifts etc. So my salary is the exact same every month so I don't know if it's different? I work for an NHS organisation, rather than an individual trust. I suppose I'll have to wait and see but it would be pretty poor if the salary didn't increase along with everyone else just because of maternity leave.

Also, when I got my breakdown from NHSBSA, they included a payrise in my September salary for my normal yearly increment so it must be able to change - plus there's the part in the maternity policy that states you're entitled to any benefits that you would be if you were in work.

The living wage payrise will be backdated from April (because that's when we should have received it) and should be in your July salary . I think it worked out that I'd have about £250 extra after tax and pension etc.

Your increment payrise will just be applicable from the increment date.

@lifechanges you are lucky to have received your breakdown of pay already, I am due to start mat leave on July 2nd (on annual leave at present) and was told I would not receive the breakdown of pay until after the last pay day of non maternity pay!

Any pay increase which takes effect between the start of the 8 week calculation period and the END of your mat leave causes your SMP to be recalculated based on the new rate, even if the effective date is after the 8 week period.

Sounds mad I know, it's due to a European court ruling. So your SMP should be recalculated based on this increase, and then again in Sept if you increment.

This should happen automatically but if not, contact payroll and remind them your mat pay needs recalculating as per the Alabaster ruling.

@Summer1986 it took some doing to get the breakdown - we have an automated HR process, you can't just talk to someone and they gave me the runaround for about 2 months, who then told me it was payroll I needed to speak to, who then told me to log a call with NHSBSA, who eventually sorted it for me!

That's not good that you won't get a breakdown before it starts, our policy says that they have to provide it 1 month before leave starts, which is why I was chasing it up so much.

So, I've just read in the below article that the backpay is now not going to be made until August's salary, due to 'school holidays'.

Has anyone actually had this confirmed to them by their employer formally? I've literally only found out by searching online - I'm due to start maternity leave on Wednesday and I've been on AL for the last 6 weeks but no one has been in touch.

We found out last week that we wouldn't get the back pay until August despite our Trust originally saying July. Thought it was just my Trust being incompetent!

I managed to get onto my employers intranet site eventually and we're not getting it until August either, in fact it's even ambiguous then - it states "we expect backpay to begin in August" and that is subject to successful implementation of ESR.

So annoyed.

They've also back peddled on the scales themselves, originally it showed that increments would stand as is - meaning I'd have one in September but that's not the case, everything now falls in line with April. Meaning there's no 2 yearly increase. Really not as good as it was made out to be. Looks like there's been loads going on with it at work whilst I've been off.

I'm a band 7 but yes, I meant in the initial backdated payment - which will have another month on top now.
