Would anyone be willing to talk to me about working in advertising, please?

My friend is a talented artist and very good with words, she is looking for part time work and I wondered about suggesting advertising. However, I've heard it is very cut-throat!

I wondered if there were any companies or organisations where people can work remotely and where the environment is really good for working parents and not the cut-throat thing I have seen on TV!

It sounds like she may be good in a creative advertising agency.

If she is good at selling I would advise her to set up alone instead - make a (fab) website and find some clients that she could do some work for so as to get hers out there.

That is a great idea, but wouldn't she need some sort of qualification?

Hi, no qualifications necessary - does she have any friends with or small Facebook sites that she could work on for free? That way she could show potential bigger clients what she is capable of, get a portfolio, that sort of thing.

@RoseanneBarred another friend has done that but it is always a famine or a feast in terms of work availability.

I think my unemployed friend just wants (really) to be an employee but likes the idea of freelance!

An old schoolmate went into advertising and has done well, head of European advertising for a relatively well known men's shirt manufacturer. She loves the work but hates the fact that any career progression has to be either in London, Berlin, or NewYork. Very little work (paid remotely well) outside those places she says.
