Job re-advertised ?

Can anyone/ recruiters shed any light on this situation?
I applied for a job that I knew was going to be advertised but by the time I saw the advert it was the day before closing date, so I feel I really rushed the application and wasn't happy with it. It really felt like it was barely advertised for 5 minutes!
A few days later I received an email to say I had been shortlisted but that the manager wanted the job to go back to advert, so presumably being advertised again.
I'm wondering why this would happen ? Could it be there were no other applicants or the closing date was advertised wrongly ? I guess I just feel a bit upset that I rushed my application and didn't do the best job I could have done and now the closing date has effectively been extended. I guess really I have been shortlisted so it isn't like I've missed out ?

Not enough people to compare you against I guess. I wouldnt ask to do yours again though.

It sounds to me like your application wasn’t particularly impressive and they want a larger field. Don’t ask to do it again but use the extra time you’ll have while it’s being readvertised to be better prepared for the interview than any others.

Agree. I used to work in recruitment and I imagine there weren't enough applications. Sounds like perhaps the wrong closing date was put on and it wasn't advertised for long enough.

Use the time to research the company and prepare your answers. Blow their socks off.

The purpose of your application is to get shortlisted really, and your application has achieved that.

The interview and any other selection techniques they use are what will get you the actual job. I imagine they want to see if they can increase the field a bit so are readvertising. Don't worry about it and just do your absolute best at interview.

It certainly sounds as if your application wasn't wonderful and you said yourself it was rushed. So ask if you can re-do it. I can't see the harm in that if you explain why. Or you could type out a written statement to supplement your application form if you feel you have missed out some relevant experience and skills.

I don't think I missed any relevant skills off just possibly didn't link experience to the person spec and job description as thoroughly as could have done. Thanks for all the suggestions.

@Babyroobs I don't think it means yours wasn't up to scratch, if that was the case they wouldn't have shortlisted you. They just need a few to shortlist that's all. Please don't worry, focus on being amazing in the next stage 😀

Emma - Thank you. I'm pleased to be short listed, I fulfilled all the essential criteria, was just a little worried about why they have re-advertised but I think it must be down to lack of applicants.

Or perhaps they noticed that they'd accidentally not posted it for as long as they meant to and just corrected their error. Whatever the reason as long as you do your very best at next stage it doesn't matter. Good luck 😊😊
