HR MN'ers - help me have a brilliant HR answer...?!

Firstly, I do work in HR so looking to bounce off my fellow MN’ers for some guidance for tomorrow, but avoiding the CIPD communities website as it isn’t anonymous

I have an annual HR day tomorrow, which is run by the group (think big international Company 5k employees) and they’ve sprung on us today that they’re looking forward to us attending and to bring with us “information on HR trends in your country / area”

We’re mainly in Europe but I’m the only HR person going from the UK.

I can think off not sure I can actually discuss them in much detail :

1. Brexit implications
2. Currency affecting our bottom line (in particular because we source / purchase in €’s)
3. Apprenticeship levy. Resource required to meet ROI
4. GDPR / data protection law changes
5. Skills shortage / tight recruitment market for professional / technical roles

Help? Can you think of anything else

That’s a great list already!

I can’t think of anything else to add.

Thanks pretty - didn’t know if they’re more business trends rather than HR trends. I can’t think of anything else without getting operational and specific to our company / locations of our sites.

Great list! I would add gender pay gap/reporting and flexible working - nothing has changed here legislation wise but think it’s always a good one to keep high on the agenda / ‘trends’.

Every single one of those has implications for HR.

If you threw in something about culture you’ll be champion of the world.

There was something in the press recently about U.K. companies possibly having to publicise the results of comparisons between men and women's salaries. And maybe other diversity data too.

Yep, gender pay gap reporting and if you want something cultural then maybe the impact of social media on your employer brand and reference the growth of sites like Glass door

You’re all fantastic!

flowery like this suggestion. We have an online review system which is group led. Can be used for continuous reviews / IPD / check back on leadership behaviours. But for Love nor money will our group management come away from the traditional annual one so the target is for the Jan review to be compulsory - drive me mad as our management are more forward, use the system but if they’re “reported” as not completing the jan review, they’re red marked!

Will let you know how I get on

I mean they prefer flexibility to a pay rise.

Is there something around lifelong learning and how you’re providing continuous skills training? If indeed you are!

Flexible working - as an option to be offered at interview. Currently there is still the mindset of bums on seats yet the technology and capability for flexible working is pervasive in people’s day to day lives.

Thanks again

Flexible working definitely a good one.

I’m on the train pulling this together!

How did it go, OP?

It went well! Certainly didn’t need to panic that I hadn’t thought of anything 🙄

They used a website to do a live word cloud survey - so you logged on from your phone, added your top 5 HR trends, and then we all reviewed the word cloud and pulled out the themes - HR digitalisation was the biggest one, which I’d added too. It was a clever little activity, like a, “on the pulse” survey of HR that we all the talked about.

Thanks everyone, was good to reflect!

I probably wouldn't mention the GDPR as that affects everyone in Europe, but the rest of the list is a very good one.

You could also mention gender pay gap reporting.

Oh you're already done! Doh. Oh well never mind then, glad it went well :)

I see you've done it now but I'd have added the requirement to publish an anti-slavery statement under new (ish) legislation
