Can anyone tell me whether this is ok?

Last May I took on a role in an educational setting (term time only) with a 10 hour per week contract. The only stipulation re: working hours was that I'd need to work from 3.00 until 6.00 every Thursday afternoon. The other 7 hours were unspecified.

I asked repeatedly before the summer if we could agree what my hours were and was told that, as long as I worked the Thursday pm I could do the rest of the hours to suit me.

I've been looking for a second job to work around these hours but not got anything yet. Over the summer I was contacted to ask if I could raise my hours from 10 to 16 per week, term time only. I agreed to this and again asked what the working hours would be. I was told that the required hours would 3-6pm on Tuesday and Thursday with the other 10 to suit me.

Yesterday I was told that I would be expected to work the remaining 10 hours at different times each week to fit in with some events that are taking place. This means that I would not be able to get a second job as the hours at the first job are constantly moving from week to week.

On my contract at says words to the effect of 'hours to be agreed' but my contract is still only for 10 hours as there's been no chance to get it updated to 16 yet.

AIBU to say that I need the 16 hours to be fixed each week so that I can get a second job? They knew that I'd be looking for other work to fit in with their job right from the beginning but this was only verbal.
