I think I'm about to be let go from my job.

Started working here November 2015. In February of this year I gave notice verbally that I was leaving. Employer asked what they could do for me to stay. I asked for a term time contract with school hours and was given it with a date to be reviewed on 20th of April this year.

We are a very small shop with one full time manger and two part time staff totalling 24 hours between us. My contract is 16 hours and the other person (who is the managers son) has an 8 hour contract but has been getting 14-16 hours per week.

I am booked off work next week as it is the school Easter holidays.

A member of staff from another department casually asked me this morning if I had found another job and I asked what she meant. She said she thought I must be leaving as the new person is starting next week. This is all news to me. I checked the rota for next week and sure enough there is a new person's name due to start on the 20th which is the day my contact was due for review. My manager is off today and tbh past behaviours have me distrustful of anything she will say to explain this.

So, do I have any options if it is the case that they are letting me go? Do they have to give me notice or can they just say on the 20th that I am no longer needed?

As you have less than two years service they can dismiss easily but would have to give the required amount of notice still.

Limiting your hours to term time only likely leaves them very short at other times so they may want somebody willing to work all year.

Yes I know how my hours affect the business, i was just wondering if I have options that would mean I could stay working here.

Maybe the new person will be additional to the staff?

Bit crap not to tell you the plan though. I would start looking for a new job pronto on that basis alone.

I really don't think so, my manager has always had to beg for extra hours to get certain tasks done and always having to justify that the hours are necessary. They really don't like giving them so I would be shocked if they authorised a whole new staff member on top of the 2 part time staff already.

I am already planning to become a CMer but this could a few months before I am registered.

I think I'm panicking because of the dates and the fact I am off next week. Can notice include holiday leave?

Best case scenario: they've got a teenager to cover the shifts you do on school holidays.

Sounds like they have got someone to do the weeks you are not in
