Provision of a rest room for breaks

Is it legal not to provide provision for rest breaks? Work for the NHS. We get 30 mins deducted for our lunch break every day (unpaid).

If clinics overrun (very often), the trained member of staff cannot leave the department, and does not have anywhere to sit to eat, so has to grab a sandwich standing in the kitchen.

Shift is from 8am - 6pm, so a long time standing.

This cannot be legal/right surely?

Doubt it's illegal, I haven't worked anywhere with a staff room for at least twenty years. You either stand in the kitchen, sit at your desk, go for a walk or sit with patients.

It's not good though.

I thought it had something to do with staff numbers. I seem to recall when we were 10+ staff the boss said we needed a staff rest room.

That's the problem. If they are not allowed to leave then they are not having a break.
