Need time off work

My employer has put me in an unfamiliar role and asked me to support a trainee too. This has caused me stress as I have tried to cope with a much heavier workload, train another and remain professional. The employer has been held accountable for their inefficiencies and is now looking for scapegoats. I already feel anxious as I am working 8am until around 9.30pm most days to keep up with the workload and the atmosphere at work is unbearable as the boss shouts and sends intimidating memos to all staff. I really need time off as my mental health is suffering. I am on holiday leave at present as it has been Easter so was wondering if I would self certify when the holiday is over. Even being away has not made me feel much better. Please advise.

Sorry you're having a rough time Thanks I was in a situation similar to this a few years ago and ended up having to go off sick. I took 3 months and therapy to get my head straight and feeling more like myself. But I knew that the work issues were still there and I'd still have to deal with them. Therapy helped me to feel stronger and more able to deal with the problem. Is there anyone at work you can raise your concerns with? Personnel? Another manager? Or can you approach your manager? Going off sick was a last resort for me when all else seemed to be failing. I really hope you get sorted x
