One month does not equal 4 weeks notice

I assumed everyone worked on the 4 weeks notice. Our contract says 1 month. It's been reiterated to use this means one full calender month so if I hand in my notice on Monday I would work until Tue 8th March.

I'm applying for jobs that ask for the current notice period in weeks.

If I read 'a month' I would assume it meant a calendar month rather than 4 weeks.

Starting a new job on a Wednesday sounds good to me - learning new ways, names and systems is exhausting so three days of it before your first weekend sounds about perfect.

I'm sure you would be able to work it out between the two employers, one or the other would probably be flexible for the sake of 2 days. Just put 4 weeks if that's the only option you have.

Current employer definitely not flexible! The last member of staff to leave returned from sick leave (stress, bullying complaint against manager) and handed in her notice with a finish date of 4 weeks. Manager, even given the circumstances, went all out to tell her it had to be one month. The difference was only 3 days. Resulted in member of staff going of sick again for the duration of the notice. So manager got a full months notice, just along with a sick line.

Well 4 weeks is 28 days and most months contain more than 28 days...

Easiest way round it if you want to finish on a Friday is to time your resignation so that it will be a Friday in a month's time, iyswim

I didn't do this but arranged with my employer to complete my final week.

Either do what your colleague did and call in sick at the end, or just tell the new employer the exact date you can start after they give you the job. They're not going to withdraw the offer and rerecruit the position for the sake of 2 days. I really wouldn't worry about it.

Have you got any annual leave left? They will i have to pay you it if not used, so they might be glad for you to use it up at the end?

If your contract says a month, it's a month. Just work out what day you want to finish and hand in your notice a month before that.
