working hours and time off in lieu

DH forks 5 days out of 7. When he works a sat he gets a day off in the week.
This week it was supposed to be tuesday so I made plans to meet up with some people from uni to get some group work done. dh then finds out his day off has been changed to wednesday.
i rearrange the group work session for wednesday only to then be told his day off has been changed again and is now friday.
So, i speak to the rest of my group and rearrange to friday.

dh then gets toothache and needs to go to the dentist. He is given an emergency appointment for today and his employer has told him that if he wants to go to the dentist then he must change his day off to today instead of tomorrow.

Now, the dentist think I don't think is too much of a problem if that had been the only change i'd had to make but having already messed my group around from tuesday to weds and then weds to fri, i'm getting a little narked now that his employer seems so family unfriendly.

I should add that i can only go and do my uni work on his day off as someone has to be at home to take care of ds.

I don't even know what i'm asking here as I know there is no legislation regarding this but has anyone any suggestions??

This isn't the first time there have been issues regarding his days off. He had his day off cancelled not long ago which meant I couldn't go and be with my dsis while her son had heart surgery. I couldn't take ds with me as he wasn't allowed on the wards at the hospital and nursery were closed (it was a sat).

I don't have family close enough to help put so theres just myself, dh and nursery and I really can't afford to go booking extra days at nursery to cover when dh is supposed to be available to allow me to study.

He shouldn't have I take his day off for emergency treatment, it should count as sick pay, surely.

Well that's what I thought. He wasn't even taking the day. He was driving to work for the morning and then leaving in his lunch to nip back to home town for dentist and then back again. Admittedly he'd have prob been slightly longer than the hour.

His boss just said if he was to have the day off as his lieu day instead of tomorrow.
