Company changing job location

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has any advice about this situation I am in. I have been offered a job, had all references checked, fulfilled all requirements etc. The company have written to me and told me the general location I will be based in (e.g. city A) which was the same as advertised. They have now changed the location to somewhere completely different, e.g. City B. There is no way I can get to the second location. They have hired a few new people and the others are all in City A.

As they have written to me stating I'll be in City A do I have a leg to stand on as I can't work in City B? I really need this job :(

What do you mean by "a leg to stand on"?

You can certainly ask whether it would be possible to be based in the original place, but you can't insist. You can refuse to take up the job as they've changed the terms, even if you've previously confined your acceptance of the offer.

Have you actually spoken to anyone?

If you mean, can you exert any pressure on them to stand by the original terms, I rather doubt it. In theory you might consider suing them for breach of contract, as if they've essentially withdrawn a solid offer, but it'd be tenuous. In fact, it's not uncommon for a contract to stipulate that you could be expected to relocate, so they could just say it was always going to be a possibility, even after you had a written contract. Definitely talk to them and explain your situation... They may offer relocation allowances, in case that swings the balance.
