i work for the nhs. Started this temp contract last june. Contract will be made permanent after a year if conduct has been good (no repeated sickness, orher issues etc).
I have had one day off due to sickness and was told my contract would be made permanent.
Until last week, when i was struck down by nasty bug, havent eaten since friday properly, only got out of bed yesterday, still feel sick all the time and still have back and stomach pain.
I have had 2 shifts off due to this and am due in tomorrow night but then off for two weeks. I am not well enough to work but am so worried that it will affect my job if i dont.
We are allowed 2 episodes of sickness in 12 months so i would fall under this, but i still dont know if i should just drag myself in

If you got out of bed yesterday then presumably even though you are still feeling very rough, you are on the mend. Impossible to say now how you will be feeling tomorrow night. If you are genuinely not well enough by tomorrow night, and you will still be under your 'allowed' time, don't go in.

It can't be possible for everyone to always be in a position to know with more than 24 hours notice whether or not they will be sick the following evening.

It's up to you! If you're not well enough now, phone them and tell them that, and say you are on the mend and hope to be well enough but felt you should let them know how you are at present. Then they can arrange cover if they like and cancel it if necessary.

I think my issue is whether another shift off will make a difference to my renewed contract, because in an ideal world i am not fit enough to work

If you're worried, could you offer to make yourself available to cover other people's absences over the 2 weeks that you are off?

Er no i have 3 dcs all on easter break until 9th may so covering is not an option.

I have phoned in sick for tonight, i am not well enough to work, nothing i can do about it. Have got a sick note and been to docs twice, its not like im living it up

With Sickness and diarrhoea we have to stay off work 48 hours after last episode, so you did the right thing not going in

if you are still off sick with the same reason for last weeks absence, and you've not been into work since, then it still counts as one period of sickness. if you call in sick for tomorrow, it should still be the same one sickness period iykwim?

if i went to work mon, called in sick tues, went to work on wed, but felt so rough that i called in sick on thursday, that would take me to 2 sickness "strikes". if i was off for a year continuosly, that would only count as one period of sickness.
