advice needed re: mean boss please

my SIL called me this afternoon asking if I knew of any temp work for the next 4 months. I asked her why (she already has a job as a PA) and she explained that she has had to leave her job as she told her boss 2 weeks ago that she is pg and he has made her life so miserable that she doesn't feel that she can work there anymore. This was completely unexpected as he has always been so nice to her. She hasn't been at the company long so wasn't expecting proper maternity leave but the icing on the cake was he canceled the leave he previously said she could have knowing that she has booked her holiday. Surely that's not legal but obviously very hard to prove!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! thank you

It's called sexual discrimination. She should go to the CAB, they will help.

Employers like this really piss me off!

It's awful isn't it. It's so sly to make someone miserable just to save your company a few bucks. I will get her to go to CAB - tbh I think she just wants to move on but he shouldn't be allowed to get away with it!

I really hate employers like this, really. Get her to do something so the twazzock doesn't get away with it. As it's a sexual discrimination matter she doesn't need to have 12 months continuous employment to qualify for protection (unless they have changed all this now). She may be able to get free legal advice from her contents insurance so it's worth investigating.

it will be very difficult to prove sex discrim. the burden of proof is on her to demonstrate that there is a case to be answered. difficult to demonstrate that within a 2 week period he made her life so difficult that she had no choice but to resign. Going to tribunal is time consuming and stressful and from what you've said, not a lot of prospect of success. Sorry to be negative, but I find there are lots of people on here who encourage everyone to "have a go" but don't actually know the system.
