Which alarm would be best?

MIL has recently had a fall and spent the night on the floor, luckily on the carpet next to the radiator, but DH now says she must have an alarm.

There are lots of complex issues in the background here and very odd family dynamics, plus MIL may well have fairly advanced dementia, so it may not happen at all, but if anyone could make a recommendation, that would be helpful.

Thanks.

OP social worker here

Contact your local authority relocate department -
There are various alarms available,
The most basic goes on a string round the neck or wrist, with a red button linked to the phone.
When pressed, this goes through to a central team who can call out over loudspeaker to check the person is ok, call an ambulance if necessary or call the NOK.

This is great but obviously relies on the person being able to understand the need to press the button.

There’s also a more expensive version that goes off automatically when it senses that the wearer has fallen - so if you were unconscious or unable to press it would go off. There are also telecare mats that can go next to beds that can go off if she falls out of bed.

Thanks, that's helpful. I've found the information I need.

You can also ask for pressure sensors which alarm if someone gets out of bed, a chair or a falls mat alarm to put by the bed. They can all link up to telecare I think.

Thanks again. I found the LA Telecare pages. It looks as if there are all sorts of possibilities. DH was all over this on Friday, but he seems to have lost interest again.

Like I say, complex issues and very odd family dynamics
