PTA type people..a fund raising idea for you!

We ran an experimental cake stall at home time today - we put up some posters, sent a flyer home in the bookbags, did some baking - and made £101!

We're going to do it every 2 weeks - which will bring in a decent chunk of money if it carries on being successful.

Our schools do this now and again. It's a great idea when everyone wants a snack coming out of school.

Out of interest, how much did you charge per cake?

Ooh good. We have one on the 26th. When you say it was experimental, does that mean the cakes were ones you hadn't tried before And also, did you hold it outside - we're thinking of doing so to catch parents waiting in the playground.

We get each year-groupto do one every term - we're an infants + nursery, so four cake bakes per term. We make about £1000 per year this way.

Love the idea of experimental cakes! No, we thought we'd do one to see how it went before we decided to do them regularly. We're now going for every second Friday.

We held it in the playground - carefully positioned so that parents couldn't miss us!

We charged 30p or 50p per item depending on size. 30p for a little fairy cake, 50p for the big muffin sized ones that I make! We had a few whole cakes we thought people might buy for the weekend, but they didn't so we cut them up and sold them by the slice.

We also has a lot of paper bowls left over from something, and they were brilliant for children who were eating them straight away.

I do think it's important to advertise well, thought, so that people bring money.

We've always found cake stalls go much better than we expected.

I'd be loathe to do one more than once a month though, (we did them once each half-term or therabouts).

Each year group in our school does one a year (or more if they fancy), or sometimes different groups do one eg the drama club. They get to use the money how they want, so often the proceeds will fund a class trip or the drama group may use it to go and see a production somewhere.

If you're asking for contributions of cakes once every 2 weeks, you'll soon get baking fatigue, I suspect. Or are a group of you signing up to make the cakes every time?

Our school does this but tends to do it in year groups so ie year 3 mums make the cakes one week and anyone can buy. We also do a selling off of the school veg garden produce which is always very popular as produce is organic and cheap!

We do a cake raffle every friday, we sell the tickets for 20p each and winner gets a homemade cake. We have a rota of 12 and the last day of term we do a big bake with 12 cakes.

we are a small school of 85pupils and make £18.00 every week from the cake raffle.

A lot our pupils go home on school transport otherwise a cake stall would be a good idea.
