MNHQ here: have your DC been affected by cuts to post-16 education? Tell Parliament about it!

Hello

Here's a question for you all from our friends on Parliament's engagement team. See below for how to respond, and see here for an outline of how Parliament's engagement team has worked with Mumsnet users before.

---

How have cuts to sixth form funding affected you, your DC or those you know?

On Tuesday, Lloyd Russell-Moyle MP will lead a Parliamentary debate arguing that real terms cuts to education budgets are having an adverse effect on those teaching and studying in sixth form colleges.

To help him prepare for his debate, he wants to hear from those with direct experience of the issue.

Tell us about your experiences by midday on Monday 24 February. We will pass them on to him and he may quote and refer to your comments during his speech.

The debate is scheduled for 2.30pm on Tuesday 25 February. We will post links to watch the debate and read the transcript as soon as these are available.

Context:
The Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) has estimated that school spending per pupil reduced by 8% in real terms between 2009/10 and 2018/19.

Regarding sixth form funding, the Sixth Form College Association states that national funding rate for 16- and 17-year olds has remained frozen at £4,000 per student, per year since 2013. This falls short of the £4,760 figure which they argue is required to deliver high-quality, internationally competitive education.

Education is compulsory
but travel is not funded in rural areas
so the poor are penalised massively
as outside London buses are not regulated (up to £1000 a year for a term time only bus pass to the only available college)

Bother. Only just seen this, too late.

We found pastoral care at college woeful compared with school.

My DD was 'young in year' and also 'young in herself' and is adopted.

Having been well supported to succeed in secondary school, that support fell off a cliff in college, and as a result she had a very turbulent time.
