What is your opinion on private education?

I have recently come to question my own opinions on this and am starting to think they may be based more on prejudice than evidence. This seems to be an emotive topic among friends and family so I'm struggling to have a balanced discussion to help me form my own opinions. Would anyone like to discuss?
