Can anyone point me in the direction of some easier 11+ (Independent)comprehension papers or resources?

My DD2 does not attend a prep or a very decent state primary and doesn't have a tutor. She will be sitting an exam for an Independent secondary school in January. We've been doing some test preparation at home. She's sound on maths, NVR and VR but the comprehension questions are unfamiliar and daunting to her.

We've only done the past paper the school sent. It's an academically selective school but not in London or the South East, so not hugely competitive and so the paper isn't that long or difficult. I need to find some more questions like it for DD2 to practice so she doesn't freeze and ignore all the questions, but other schools' practice papers I find online are from London schools and are much harder. I want to give her some easier questions to practice so I can build her confidence.

If the 11+ English papers you've been able to find are a bit daunting, you could try 9+ or 10+ ones which are a little bit more straightforward, e.g.

I used some 10 minute ones. They were CGP books. Could that be better?

As the exam is in Jan 17, I would suggest you do some mock exam papers, Bond ones are not very hard. I did find sample papers from grammar schools and independant schools were harder than Bond ones.

Not sure I'd agree with the PP above. Some of the Bond comprehension papers we've used in the past were very challenging with very long passages to read. I had a DS very strong on maths but less so English. We went down a level for the comprehension and he got into a very selective independent.

Thanks everyone. I've bookmarked some of your links and ideas and I popped into Smith's and looked at the Bond books again. I've bought the English Assessment Papers for age 9-10. It has shorter pieces of text from familiar books and some questions that are written in a similar way to the practice paper we got from the school. I think I can pick and choose a few sections for her to practise and that will give her a boost.
