My children attend other schools in the S W Herts consortium, and have friends at Parmiter's. It is a good school, and suits those looking for partially selective co-ed state education, but I would suggest visiting it before applying, to see if it is a good fit for your child.

If you are hoping for an academic or music place to start Year 7 in September 2017, then the procedure is similar for any school in the S W Herts consortium; register online for the aptitude tests in May 2016, sit the tests in September 2016, receive scores in October 2016 then submit application before 31 October.

I have a child at year 11 at Parmiters. After few years at the school, I can say the school is not as good as they say they are. First, look at the staff list and the universities they attended. Second, if there is any issue at school, bullying, stealing and in my son's case, a teacher physically abused him, they school claims it is not the issues at the school but it is to do with the family. They will meet you and discuss the issues but will refer you and the child to the family support. If your child wish to achieve high, most of the extra academic tuitions are done at home with the parents paying for private tutors. they select students from the start and I do not think the school adds any value to the students. In many cases, it is detrimental to the child. OFSTEAD rating for teaching is "good". In other areas, the school achieves outstanding however these can be done by ticking the right boxes at the inspection. History for example, is extremely biased to left wing trend. If you are a solo musician, the music teachers will tell you there is nothing to do at the school. Religious studies, which is compulsory up to GSCE year is biased to one stream of Christianity. The school overall, lacks in intelligence, compassion and professionalism. I do no recommend this school to anyone.
