Children eating sweets at Kindergarten

Visited a kindergarten with ds (who has multiple and serious food allergies) girl was sitting at the table at 9.10am (ie had just got there) all that was left in her lunchbox was a jelly snake - a muffin wrapper and a horrible orange cheese potato puff wrapper was in the bin on the table.

So that was the "nutritious" morning snack her parents were asked to provide.

So ds is staying at the expensive preschool that give proper food at supervised regular intervals.

I think the dental nurse from the school next door needs to visit that kindergarten.

I'm not sure if you are suggesting that it is the fault of the kindergarten but surely if the parents are providing the food and choose to send in this utter rubbish, there is very little the kindergarten can do? A montessori pre-school close to us has thrown in the towel after years of asking parents to provide healthy lunches and only letting the children eat sweets, crisps etc after they had at least tried their sandwiches, fruit or other healthy options. They have now sent home a letter stating that they will open the lunchboxes and let the children eat in whichever order they wish. In the letter they also mentioned that some parents had asked for their child not to be included when sweets are given out at nursery for a birthday or other celebration but as they have noticed some of these same children bringing sweets in their lunch boxes they would like the parents to clarify their wishes!

But other kindergarten's just have a "no crap" rule, or state lunch must be a sandwich and a piece of fruit as well as whatever.

They are required by the curriculum to promote healthy eating.
